MOTO GUZZI - SS2 CAMSHAFTS
After a number of years out of production, in 2023 Muzzi Moto obtained the
exclusive global rights to the supply of Raceco
camshafts for all Moto Guzzi's.
The patented SS2 camshaft is probably the ultimate development of a road
going cam for two valve Guzzi's and the output of many years of development back
in the 1990's by Raceco. Uniquely the SS2 camshaft has more duration and overlap
than others available, but still retains low down pulling power with the bonus
of accessible extra power at the top end. Great improvements have been seen from
fitting these camshafts in almost all engines from 850 Le Mans to 1100
California; both square and round barrel. The issue for a number of years was
the
availability of these cams, which Muzzi Moto resolved and now normally hold Raceco SS2 camshafts
in stock & ready-to-ship.

Some short notes on Moto Guzzi camshafts:
The standard cam in 850cc/950cc Guzzi's are all the same
(i.e. Le Mans 1-111, SP1000 Spada, T3, T4, T5, California, Mille GT etc. etc.).
The later 1064cc engines (e.g. California 1100) do not have
the worm drive on the end of the cam for the mechanical tachometer, unlike the
earlier engines. There are a couple of exceptions with 850/950 engines when
either no tachometer was fitted to the bike originally, or an electronic
tachometer was fitted by Guzzi.
The main exception is the B10 cam fitted to Le Mans 1000 4/5 and
some 1000S engines. The B10 camshaft profile has been around since the 1970's and offers a
slightly higher lift over standard, however it is no where near as effective in
useable power delivery compared to much more developed Raceco SS2 cam.
The Agostini P3 camshaft is sometimes still available (but normally to order), the Raceco
SS2 camshaft was originally a further development of this cam and as such
represents a generation on in terms of power delivery, performance and quality
compared to the P3.
The SS2 camshafts will require different timing setting to a standard cam,
however, will not require any machining of the standard heads (e.g. to create
extra clearance etc) in order to fit.
